4-Metre Missile Display Model – Defence Industry

- Industry: Defence Industry
- Challenge: Convert detailed SolidWorks CAD data into a 4-metre physical missile display model while maintaining proportions, design details, dimensional consistency and reliable assembly across multiple large sections.
- Solution: CAD Deziners developed the CAD geometry, divided the model into manufacturable sections and produced it using SLA 3D printing. The components were assembled, surface-prepared and spray-finished, followed by CAD-to-physical quality checks and manufacturing refinements.
CAD Deziners team has recently completed a project for a defence-sector client. This project involved the design, manufacturing, assembly and finishing of a 4-metre-scale missile display model.
The project began with a detailed SolidWorks CAD development, with a strong focus on maintaining the proportions and visual definition of the original design. The large-scale model was manufactured using SLA 3D printing, with the overall structure divided into multiple sections to enable accurate production, assembly and handling.
Key design and production considerations included the nose cone, body sections, accent bands, fin interfaces, fin-root details, fastener features and surface transitions. The components were carefully assembled before undergoing specialist surface preparation and spray finishing to achieve the required presentation quality.
Throughout production, the team carried out CAD-to-physical comparisons and quality checks to identify manufacturing variations. Where required, the CAD geometry and manufacturing approach were refined to improve dimensional consistency, assembly interfaces and repeatability.
The completed model demonstrates our capability to take a detailed engineering design through CAD development, large-format additive manufacturing, assembly, finishing and final quality control for large-scale defence-related display applications.
